MrTweet integration on Topify Follower Notifications
god is now following you on Twitter!
Bringing value to our users is our number one mission here at Topify. And what can be more valuable than time? When you don’t have to go to a new follower’s profile to see that you’re aren’t interested in following him, you save a whole lot of time. When you follow him back by just replying to an email, you save the time it takes to wait for Twitter’s site to respond. And when you unfollow that pesky spammers who send you auto generated DMs, you save even more time.
All this time adds up. According to our calculation, since the day we started with Topify, we saved to our users an equivalent of 36 days of time - that’s 864 hours or 51840 minutes.
We sure hope that you do something good with that time we save you ;-)

new green line for “already following”
Today we received a weird email from Twimailer.com a competing service we believed it was important to share the story with our users and also with the users of this service
It is not in our practice to be critical about what a competitor do. But since this touching us directly we want to be transparent in what we think and what we do. We spotted this actor from day 1 for which we were happy (competiton is always good specially when our service is better :) ) but we also noticed some strange elements we kept for us until today.
Here is the story
Today we were offered to acquire Twimailer for a few thousands dollars. We have nothing against buying external companies although this is not part of our agenda. However we digged a little. We found worrying signs about it.
Twimailer was created by in the UK by Jon Weatley . However the email was not coming from him but from someone from Romania who claimed he acquired the domain and the application recently. We double clicked and found out this was the case (whois here). The acquisition is mentionned on Jon Weatley site but without details. The service claims several thousands users and a few other assets that between us have little value to us as is given our current growth.
We digged a little more as the email precise the service has a twitter account (@Twimailer) which is not working anymore because it was closed by Twitter. The owner claims “they forgot the password” and had to create a new one. However on the site both are still present. We also run a search on Twimailer in Twitter and found that many users are complaining about the service and registrations are closed (the company claims the service is being migrated)
What we found worrying is that the seller claims he wants to sell the domain only a few weeks after having acquired it claiming he s too busy to manage (why did he buy it in the first place btw? ). There is nothing wrong with that, but the site has no terms of services (at least we could not find any) and we don t believe it is fair to Twimailer users to sell a service without being transparent to them (specially when it is mentionned on their site “We don’t spam or do anything bad to your e-mail” )
Conclusion
New recent owner willing to sell, unclear reasons for sale, Twitter account suspended, users complaining…Needless to say we are not going to move a finger on that offer. Too many details are confusing and could even harm what we are trying to do. We are committed to a very high quality service and a continuous level of transparency as our current users can testify. Our privacy policy is displayed on our site and people know where to find us if necessary. We believe we re building a service that is here to last and don’t want our category to be harmed by story like those.
Special message to twimailer users> you do what you have to do. But in your shoes we would change the email on twitter settings. More than ever users should be careful who they give their data to. Of course we would be happy to welcome you on Topify.
update: check our story on ReadWriteWeb
At 5:45PM PST Twitter had an unexpected downtime. It had some affect on us, due to which some of your messages were processed twice. As far as we know nothing was lost - everyone you asked to follow was followed and every DM you sent was sent. But to be careful - if you sent an important DM/follow, please make sure that you received confirmation for it.
If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask in the comments or just shoot us an email to support at topify dot com.
Thanks!
New Direct Message design coming to Topify
You have asked for it. We made it.
From now on if you want to block or unfollow someone, just forward any message to either block@topify.com or unfollow@topify.com
Read more below ——>
:: Easy block: forward to block@topify.com ::
Sometimes not following someone is not enough. If you have spotted (thanks to Topify emails?) a user that you want to block, until now you had to go to his twitter page and find the block link, click on it read the instructions and block him.
From now all you have to do is forward any topify email concerning this user (DM notification, new follower notification) to block@topify.com and we’ll do the work for you (a confirmation message will be sent once it is done).
:: Easy unfollow: forward to unfollow@topify.com ::
Same thing with unfollow: no need to go to the user twitter page to unfollow a user. If you receive a direct message that disturbs you (like those auto welcome direct messages) or if you receive follow notice from someone you already follow but suddenly changed your mind, just forward thoses emails to unfollow@topify.com and we will do the job
At topify we believe every second and every click saved is worth a lot. Those new additions will become very useful in a few cases specially when you are on the go and can’t access your twitter client or don’t have the time to open a mobile browser. Of course it will be also helpful from your computer.
Now, between us, we sincerely hope you won’t need to block and unfollow too much, otherwise this means either Twitter is becoming a little too trashy or that you are doing something wrong in adding new friends (which should not happen if you are already using Topify…).
Tell us what you think in the comments.
:: Topify Tip ::
We suggest you add those two email adresses to your contact book so it becomes even easier as your email client will probably autosuggest them as you write them.
:: Easy add to spam coming - we need your opinion ::
With Topify it is pretty easy to spot a spammer since you see his last twits and ratio following/follower. We’ll add soon a spam@topify.com command. Before we do that we want your opinion.
Topify can either send a public @spam message to Twitter for you or notify Twitter privately on a spammy activity for which you need to follow @spam (and we could also so do that for you).
Which one do you prefer?
In case you don’t know, on Sunday, April 5th, 10am PST (see what time is it in your timezone) Twitter are planning downtime of one hour. Because the whole Twitter site and API is going to be down, the Topify service will be partially down too: we will receive your emails, but we won’t process them until the Twitter API is up again.
We will post here a notice when the service is fully up again.
